Safety Tips from the Experts: Our Employees!

Safety’s a big part of the S&N culture. We prioritize it as a company. We strive to discover new industry insights to improve safety. And, when one of our own has a stand-out safety moment, we celebrate as a family. We know that we couldn’t boast about our impressive safety record if it weren’t for our employees making daily efforts to keep themselves and each other safe. So, when Locator Safety Awareness Week hit, we felt it was a good time to ask them for their best safety tips. Topics ranged from safe driving habits to using the buddy system, and everything in between. Here are just a few things members of our safety-conscious team wrote:

Driving and Travel

“The best offense while driving is an equally good defense; just like football, you can’t win a game without both.” -Mike Sandidge, southwest regional manager, Stake Center Locating

“Don’t text and drive!”-Delia Cabezuela, line technician, Stake Center Locating

Self-Care

“Always spray the top of your boots, socks and pants legs with mosquito repellent to protect from chiggers (red bugs) and ticks, when walking through brush and tall grass.” -Terra Leigh, lead locate technician and damage coordinator, S&N Communications

“Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, especially during summer. Start drinking fluids even before you’re thirsty. The first sign of dehydration is thirst.” -Jesus Rivera, lead technician, S&N Communications

On-the-job

“Your brain is always your most important and powerful safety tool; slow down and use it in all situations. We all, once proficient at our jobs, tend to go on ‘auto pilot’, and we all feel the need to rush things when we’re behind or backed up…slow down, think things through and be safe every day.” -Calvin Benton, foreman, D2L, S&N Construction Services
